The state legislature of Florida has the power to exempt Florida from daylight-saving time. It’s high time it did so. Daylight-saving time is a northern invention for northern states. The accidents of geography and the time zone boundaries make it ridiculous in Florida.
Under federal law, any state legislature can declare their state to be on standard time. States like Florida, whose territory lies in two time zones have an exemption allowing the state legislature to remove all or part of the state from DST.

Joe Average gets up for work or school at 6 AM. In other parts of the Eastern Time Zone, the sun rises well before 6AM EDT. In Florida, 6 AM EDT is always before sunrise. Joe has to get up in the dark every day, all summer long. At the same moment it is daylight up north.
